Matthew Freeman

Obligation is a condition or feeling of being obligated or having to do something weather you want to or not. like if you have a freind that you have known for most of your life and a girlfreind that you have had for a few weeks or even a few months and your feind and her are fighting. You would be obligated to choose your freinds side, mainly due to the fact you have been freinds for years. that is why they have the saying's "Bro's before hoe's and sisstas before mista's."

In the story th whale rider; the little girl felt obligated to impress her grandfather. She felt this way because she was the first born and the first born should have been a boy accordeing to there customs. She also felt obligated at the end of the story to help the beached whale. When the whale was safe, she felt she should ride the whale as long as she could so her grandfather would welcome her as if she were a man.

In the story the giver; the boy felt obligated to help the comunitee. He held all the memories and feelings so that no one ealse had to. The giver in the story felt obligated to help the boy to escape but could not leave with because the giver felt obligated to also stay and help the comunitee with the lose of the reciver and the flooding of feelings and memories.

Frncois Duc De La Rochefoucauld once said "Too great haste in paying off an obligation is a kind of ingraditude". Which to me means that if you pay off a debt or favor to some one too soon, they could take it as if want to get it done so you have to deal with them again.

Some of the sites that i got my information from are: www.humanityquest.com, www.answers.com, www.sojo.net/index.crm?action=magazine.artic&issue=soj98078&article=980721, www.links.jstor.org, and www.stsavanc.org. on these sites i was able to find a few ways to say obligation. like verpflichtung which is german, devoir which happens to be french, de verplichting which is dutch, obbligo which is italian, or obligaicion which is spanish.
