Hero's Journey

A hero is someone that uses a quality or qualities greater than the average man for good. Cast Away contains a time consumed man named Chuck Noland and his hero's journey. He is simply a hero because of his incredible courage, hope, and reason for survival.

Chuck's separation started with his reason for leaving, his calling, which was a business trip. As Chuck walks back to his car to give his girlfriend the keys, and also to say good bye he finds his threshold, the moment he has to decide wether to stay or to go. As Chuck enters the plane he begins his descent into his journey.

Chuck hears the sounds of distress coming from the cockpit and knows something is gone wrong. The plane crashes into the sea with a thunderous noise and he is left all alone clinging to a raft! The initiation begins when he awakes and finds himself in the abyss, the unknown. Over the next four torturous years his logic tells him he will die on the island and never see his wife. But his courage, hope, and reason to be reunited with her pushes him to survive.

Chuck begins his return when he decides to leave the island in hopes of being reunited with his girlfriend. A ship retrieves him at sea and he is ironically flown home. All his logic is proven wrong with his return, but upon returning he discovers that his girlfriend has married and began a new family with a new man. He lost her all over agian and must now decide what path he shall take his life towards.

Where most people would give up, Chuck did not. With all of his logic telling him he would never make it back, he proved logic wrong. Incredible courage, hope, and reason for survival are the qualities that make Chuck Noland a hero.
